Photovoltaics Thin Films

PV Thin Films are the most efficient material in poor light conditions, whilst also being an extremely sturdy and durable. Thin films made of special photovoltaic material are able to produce solar cells with relatively high conversion efficiencies, while using much less material than crystalline silicon cells.

Materials and technology used in PV Thin Films are amorphous silicon (a-Si), copper indium diselenide (CIS) and its alloys, and cadmium telluride (CdTe).

Amorphous silicon, the best established of the various thin-film PV materials, will represent an $800 million ($US) opportunity followed by organic and hybrid organic/inorganic materials and then CIS/CIGS.

We are currently in the space of facilitating, enabling tie-ups and providing the expertise and support. We are in the process of securing production in collaboration with overseas entities and not yet into production.

Photovoltaics Modules

PV modules consist of PV cell circuits sealed in an environmentally protective laminate and are the fundamental building block of PV systems. 36 cell modules are the industry standard for large power production. This technology can be coupled with specially designed equipment for the production of quality, low cost, PV modules. Modules are further connected to form an array. The term array refers to the entire generating plant, whether it is made up of one or several thousand modules.

Ideal for rooftop, freestanding and building integrated (BIPV) applications PV Cells can be easily manufactured in a speciality thin-film PV manufacturing facility.

Photovoltaics Cells

Photovoltaic cells are usually known as 'solar cells' and form the basic building block of a PV system. A single PV cell is a thin semiconductor wafer made of 2 layers generally comprising of highly purified silicon. PV cells operate on the principle that electricity will flow between two different semiconductors when they are put in contact with each other and exposed to light. By linking a number of these cells together a flow of electricity can be achieved.

PV cells can be made of different semiconductors but the most widely used is crystalline silicon. Individual cells can vary in size across. To increase power output, cells are electrically connected into a packaged weather-tight module as described above.
